1 The Time I Confessed to My Desk Partner Suyeon 800

When I was in 5th grade, my desk partner was a girl named Suyeon.
Suyeon was a bit chubby, but she was very kind and always took care of me.
If I dropped my pencil case, she would pick it up for me.
If I didn’t have an eraser, she would hand over hers without saying anything.
I don’t know why, but I started to really like her.

One day, I decided to tell her how I felt.
After school, I carried her bag for her and even bought her a snack secretly.
When we went out, I gently held her hand.
When other kids tried to make fun of her, I stood up for her.
The boys backed off, but Suyeon always smiled at me.

On the day I made up my mind, I said without fear,

3 해석

내 짝궁 수연이에게 고백했던 일

 

내가 5학년이었을 때, 짝궁은 수연이라는 여자아이였다.

수연이는 또래보다 조금 통통했지만, 마음씨가 여리고 나를 잘 챙겨주는 아이였다.

내가 필통을 떨어뜨리면 먼저 주워주고, 지우개가 없으면 말없이 자기 것을 내밀어주었다.

그런 수연이가 왠지 모르게 점점 좋아졌다.

 

어느 날, 용기를 내어 고백하기로 결심했다.

하교 시간에는 수연이의 가방을 들어주고, 매점에서 몰래 간식도 사주었다.

놀러 나갈 때는 슬쩍 손도 잡아 보았다.

다른 아이들이 수연이를 놀리려 하면 내가 나서서 막았다.

녀석들은 나를 피했지만, 수연이는 늘 나에게 웃어주었다.

 

드디어 결심한 날, 나는 망설임 없이 말했다.

"수연아, 나 너 좋아해. 우리 사귀자."

내 심장은 터질 것 같았다.

수연이는 잠깐 놀란 듯하더니 고개를 천천히 저었다.

"미안… 나 좋아하는 친구 있어."

 

그 말을 듣고 나는 바로 알 수 있었다.

아마도 잘생기고 공부도 잘하는 우리 반 1등 정환이일 것이다.

모든 여자아이들에게 인기가 많았으니까.

 

어느 정도 예상은 했지만, 그래도 마음은 쓰렸다.

진심을 전한 것에 후회는 없었지만,

첫사랑이 시작도 전에 끝나버린 것 같아 아쉬웠다.

 

그 후에도 우리는 여전히 짝궁으로 지냈고,

어색함 없이 친구로 잘 지냈다.

비록 짝사랑이었지만,

수연이와의 짝궁 시절은 내 어린 시절의 소중한 추억으로 남아 있다.
