1 The First Day of School (Extended Version) 

Haemin woke up early this morning.
Her heart was beating fast.
"I'm finally a first grader!" she said.
She got out of bed and ran to the window.
The sun was shining, and the sky was blue.

She put on her new bag and shiny sneakers.
Her shoulders felt proud and strong.
"Today is my big day!" she said.

Mom came in and smiled.
"Haemin, did you put on your name tag?"
"Yes! Here it is~" Haemin smiled back.
She also picked up her pencil case and lunch box.

They got into the car and drove to school.
On the way, Haemin looked out the window.
She saw children walking with their moms and dads.

When they got to the school, many kids were standing outside.
Some were laughing, some were crying.
Haemin held her lips tight and looked around.

Then, one girl came up to her.
"Are you in first grade too? I'm Sua!"
"Yes, I'm Haemin!" she answered with a small smile.

They walked into the school gate together.
Haemin felt a little shy but also happy.

The hallway was full of colors and pictures.
In the classroom, colorful balloons hung up on the wall.
There were name cards on every desk.

The teacher stood up and waved to them.
"Welcome, everyone!" she said.
"From today, we are all cool first graders!"

Haemin sat down next to Sua.
They became desk mates.
In the first class, they wrote down each other’s names.
"Your name is so pretty," Sua said.
"Thanks! Yours too!" said Haemin.

Then they took out their crayons and drew flowers.

Haemin looked around the room.
Everyone was busy and smiling.

'Maybe school is more fun than I thought!'
Haemin said to herself.

And today, going to school started to feel a bit exciting.
She couldn't wait to come back tomorrow.

sat down                             앉았어요

wrote down                        적었어요, 써내려갔어요

took out                              꺼냈어요

started to feel                     느끼기 시작했어요

come back                          다시 오다

 

3해석

혜민이는 오늘 아침 일찍 일어났습니다.
심장이 쿵쾅거렸습니다.
"드디어 1학년이 됐어!" 혜민이가 말했습니다.
혜민이는 침대에서 일어나 창가로 달려갔습니다.
햇살이 따스했고, 하늘은 파랬습니다.

새 가방과 반짝이는 운동화를 신었습니다.
어깨가 꼿꼿하고 당당했습니다.
"오늘은 내 생일이야!" 혜민이가 말했습니다.

엄마가 들어와 미소를 지었습니다.
"혜민아, 명찰 달았니?"
"응! 여기 있어~" 혜민도 미소를 지었습니다.
혜민은 필통과 도시락도 집어 들었습니다.

그들은 차를 타고 학교로 갔습니다.
가는 길에 혜민은 창밖을 내다보았습니다.
아이들이 엄마 아빠와 함께 걸어가는 모습이 보였습니다.

학교에 도착하니 많은 아이들이 밖에 서 있었습니다.
어떤 아이들은 웃고, 어떤 아이들은 울고 있었습니다.
혜민은 입술을 깨물고 주위를 둘러보았습니다.

그때 한 여자아이가 혜민에게 다가왔습니다.
"너도 1학년이니? 나 수아야!"
"네, 혜민이에요!" 수아가 옅은 미소를 지으며 대답했습니다.

두 사람은 함께 교문으로 들어섰습니다.
혜민은 조금 부끄러웠지만 동시에 행복했습니다.

복도는 색깔과 그림으로 가득했습니다.
교실 벽에는 알록달록한 풍선들이 걸려 있었습니다.
모든 책상 위에는 이름표가 놓여 있었습니다.

선생님이 일어서서 수아에게 손을 흔들었습니다.
"모두 환영합니다!" 선생님이 말했습니다.
"오늘부터 우리 모두 멋진 1학년이야!"

혜민은 수아 옆에 앉았습니다.
두 사람은 같은 반이 되었습니다.
1학년 때 서로의 이름을 적었습니다.
"이름이 너무 예쁘네." 수아가 말했습니다.
"고마워! 나도!" 혜민이 말했습니다.

그러고 나서 그들은 크레파스를 꺼내 꽃을 그렸습니다.

혜민은 교실을 둘러보았습니다.
모두가 분주하게 웃고 있었습니다.

'학교가 생각보다 재밌는 거 같네!'
해민은 속으로 중얼거렸다.

그리고 오늘, 학교에 가는 게 좀 설레기 시작했다.
내일 학교에 다시 오는 게 너무 기대됐다.
