1 The Handwriting Contest 

Today was the big handwriting contest.
Sumin sat down with a fresh sheet of paper.

She picked up her pencil and took a deep breath.
“I can do this,” she told herself.

The teacher passed out the practice sheets.
“Write slowly and clearly,” she said.

Sumin started writing the first line.
Her letters looked neat and round.

But suddenly, her pencil broke!
“Oh no!” she raised her hand.

The teacher quickly came over and gave her another pencil.

“Thank you!” Sumin whispered and kept going.

She finished just in time.

Later that day, the teacher announced the winners.

“Sumin, your writing was beautiful. You win!”

Sumin’s eyes lit up, and her friends cheered.

She smiled proudly and thought,
“Even small letters can lead to a big moment.”

그녀는 연필을 집어 들고, 심호흡을 했어요.

“난 할 수 있어,” 그녀는 속으로 다짐했어요.

 

선생님이 연습지를 나눠주셨어요.

“천천히, 또박또박 쓰렴,” 선생님이 말씀하셨어요.

 

수민이는 첫 줄을 쓰기 시작했어요.

글씨는 깔끔하고 둥글었어요.

 

그런데 갑자기 연필이 부러졌어요!

“앗, 안 돼!” 그녀는 손을 들었어요.

 

선생님이 얼른 다가와 새 연필을 주셨어요.

 

“감사합니다!” 수민이는 속삭이며 계속 썼어요.

 

딱 시간에 맞춰 글을 마쳤어요.

 

그날 오후, 선생님이 수상자를 발표하셨어요.

 

“수민이, 글씨가 아주 예뻤단다. 우승이야!”

 

수민이의 눈이 반짝였고, 친구들은 환호했어요.

 

그녀는 자랑스럽게 웃으며 생각했어요.

“작은 글자도 큰 순간을 만들어 주는구나.”
