Minseo sat down with her pencil ready.
민서는 연필을 들고 자리에 앉았어요.

“Today is the spelling test,” the teacher announced.
“오늘은 받아쓰기 테스트입니다,” 선생님이 알려주셨어요.

“You can do this,” Minseo told herself.
“넌 할 수 있어,” 민서는 자신에게 말했어요.

The teacher read out the first word.
선생님이 첫 번째 단어를 읽어주셨어요.

“Flower.”
“Flower.”

Minseo wrote it down quickly.
민서는 재빨리 그것을 적었어요.

But then came a tricky word—“umbrella.”
그런데 어려운 단어가 나왔어요—“umbrella.”

“U…M…B…?” she paused.
“U…M…B…?” 그녀는 멈칫했어요.
(pause: 멈추다)

She erased it and tried again.
그녀는 지우고, 다시 써봤어요.

“Oh no! I’m running out of time!”
“어떡해! 시간 다 돼 간다!”

When the test was over, Minseo put down her pencil.
시험이 끝나고, 민서는 연필을 놓았어요.

Later, the teacher handed out the papers.
나중에 선생님이 시험지를 나눠주셨어요.

Minseo looked at her score—one word wrong.
민서는 자신의 점수를 봤어요—한 문제 틀렸어요.

“Aww… it was umbrella!”
“아… 그게 umbrella였구나!”

Her friend Hana leaned over.
친구 하나가 몸을 기울이며 말했어요.

“I got it wrong too! Let’s practice together next time.”
“나도 틀렸어! 다음엔 같이 연습하자.”

Minseo laughed.
민서는 웃었어요.

Even a mistake can bring friends closer—

실수도 친구를 더 가깝게 만들어 줘요—
다음엔 꼭 맞게 쓸 거예요.
