David and Goliath

(A Bible Story for Kids – Easy English)

Once upon a time, there was a big war.

The people of Israel and the people of Philistia set up camps on two hills.
A valley was between them.
Every day, a huge man named Goliath came out from the Philistine side.

He was over 9 feet tall!
He put on heavy armor and a big helmet.
He held up a large sword and a long spear.
His shield was carried by another man in front of him.

Goliath shouted, “Send me one man! If he beats me, we give up.
But if I win, you give in and serve us!”

He did this every morning and evening for 40 days.
The soldiers of Israel looked at Goliath and shook with fear.
No one wanted to fight.
They ran away when he came near.
Even King Saul was afraid.

David was a young boy. He was the youngest of eight brothers.
He was not a soldier. He was a shepherd who looked after sheep.
He played music and sang songs to God.

One day, David’s father said,
“Your brothers are in the army. Take along this food and bread.
Go and find out how they are.”

So David set out early in the morning.
He walked many miles to the army camp.
He came to the hill and gave out the food to the man in charge.
Then he ran up to his brothers to say hello.

At that moment, Goliath came out again.
He shouted his angry words.
David looked around and saw the soldiers backing away.

David asked, “Why is no one fighting this man?”
They said, “He is too big. He cannot be beaten.”

David said, “But we have God on our side. I will fight him!”

The news got around, and people started talking.
Soon King Saul called in David.
“You are just a boy,” the king said. “You can’t fight this man!”

David said, “I fought off lions and bears to protect my sheep.
God helped me then. He will help me now!”

So the king said, “Go, and may God be with you.”
He put on his armor for David.
But it was too heavy and big.
David took off the armor and said, “I can’t walk in this.”

He went down to the stream and picked up five smooth stones.
He held his sling and trusted in God.

David ran up to the field where Goliath was standing.
Goliath looked over David and laughed loudly.
“Am I a dog that you come at me with sticks?” he shouted.

David said, “You come with a sword, but I come with the name of the Lord!”

He took out a stone, put it in his sling, and spun it around his head.
Then he let it go.
The stone flew through the air and hit Goliath on the forehead.

Goliath fell down hard on the ground.
The earth shook. Everyone was silent.
Then the Philistines ran away in fear.
The army of Israel cheered for David and ran after the Philistines.

That day, a boy with faith in God won over a giant.
He showed that courage and trust in God are stronger than swords.
