A Trip to the Zoo

 

It was a sunny morning, and Jake and his family were very excited. Today, they were going to head out to the zoo!

"Jake, don’t forget to put on your hat and sneakers," said Mom.
"Okay, Mom! I’m ready!" Jake said as he picked up his backpack and ran down the stairs.

Dad said, "Let’s pack up some snacks and water to bring along."
Jake helped to pick out apples, bananas, and juice to put in his bag. He also brought along his camera to take pictures.

On the way to the zoo, Jake and his sister, Emma, looked out the car window and talked about the animals they wanted to see.
"I hope we can check out the elephants first!" said Jake.
"I want to go over to the penguins," said Emma.

When they arrived at the zoo, Jake couldn’t wait to look around.
"Wow! Look at all the animals!" he said as they walked through the big gate.

"Let’s check out the map to see where to go first," said Dad.
They all looked over the map and decided to go over to see the lions.

As they walked, they came across a monkey swinging from a tree.
"Look, Mom! The monkey is so funny!" Jake said, laughing.
Emma pointed out a baby monkey climbing up a branch. "Aw, so cute!" she said.

When they got to the lions, Jake looked out and saw a big lion lying down under a tree.
"Let’s sit down here and watch over the lions for a while," said Mom.
They took out their binoculars to see the lions better.

Suddenly, the lion stood up and let out a big roar!
"Wow! Did you hear that?" Jake asked. "That was loud!"

Next, they moved on to see the giraffes.
"Wow, they are so tall!" Jake said as he looked up at the giraffes eating leaves from the trees.

After that, they went over to the elephant area.
"Can we feed them?" Jake asked.
"Maybe later. Let’s find out what time the feeding starts," said Dad.

While walking, Jake came up with an idea.
"Let’s write down the names of all the animals we see and take pictures of them!"
"Great idea!" said Mom, and she pulled out a notebook and pen.

They walked on and saw zebras, bears, flamingos, and penguins.
Jake even pointed out a baby penguin running around and slipping over the ice.
"Look at that penguin! It’s so funny!" he said.

Later, they sat down on a bench to eat up their snacks.
"I’m so hungry!" Jake said, taking out a banana.
After eating, they threw away their trash in a bin and got up to see more animals.

Then they went to check out the reptile house.
"Let’s go in quietly," said Dad. "We don’t want to scare the animals."
Inside, Jake came across a huge snake sliding around in its cage.
"Whoa! Look at that snake!" he said.

After visiting the reptiles, they lined up to get on the zoo train for a fun ride.
"This is so much fun!" Jake said as the train took off and moved around the zoo.

The train slowed down near the zebras and stopped so people could get off to watch them.
"Look! They are running together!" Emma said.

As they headed back to the car, Jake thought about all the animals he had seen.
"Can we come back to the zoo next month?" he asked.
"Of course," said Dad. "Next time, we can check out the bird show too!"

On the way home, Jake looked back at the zoo and smiled.
"I want to tell my friends all about it!" he said.

When they got home, Jake wrote down all the animals he saw and drew pictures of his favorite ones.
"Today was the best day ever!" he said happily.
