Cooking with Mom

It was a rainy afternoon, and Mia was sitting by the window, watching the raindrops fall down.
"Mom, I’m bored! What can I do?" Mia asked.
Mom smiled and said, "Why don’t you help out and cook up something delicious with me?"

"Yay! Let’s do it!" Mia said, jumping up and putting away her book.
"What are we going to make?" she asked.
"Let’s look over some recipe books and pick out something fun," said Mom.

Mia flipped through the pages and said, "How about pancakes? We can add on fruits too!"
"Great idea!" said Mom. "Let’s set up the kitchen and get out everything we need."

Mia pulled out flour, eggs, milk, and sugar from the cupboard.
She also took out a big bowl, a whisk, and measuring cups.
"Don't forget to bring along the chocolate chips!" Mia said, smiling.
Mom laughed and grabbed the chocolate chips from the shelf.

"Okay, Mia. Let’s mix up the batter," said Mom.
Mia poured in the milk carefully and cracked open the eggs.
"Be careful not to spill over the milk," Mom reminded her.
"I will!" said Mia as she stirred up the batter slowly.

Next, Mom said, "Let’s turn on the stove and heat up the pan."
"Can I do it?" Mia asked.
"Sure, but let me watch over you," said Mom.

When the pan was ready, Mia poured out the batter carefully.
"Look, Mom! It’s starting to bubble!" Mia said.
"Good job! Now, we have to flip over the pancake when it’s ready," said Mom.

Mia waited and then turned over the pancake with a spatula.
"Wow! It’s golden brown!" she said proudly.

While they waited for more pancakes to cook, Mom said, "Let’s cut up some fruit to put on top."
Mia picked up a banana and started to slice up pieces carefully.
"I’ll wash up the strawberries," said Mom.
When the fruit was ready, Mia spread out honey on the pancakes and placed on the fruits.
"Yum! They look so pretty!" Mia said.

"Now, let’s set out plates and forks, and we can sit down to eat," said Mom.
"Don’t forget to pour out the orange juice," Mia added.

They both ate up the pancakes and drank their juice.
"Mom, these are the best pancakes ever!" Mia said with a big smile.
"I’m glad you like them," said Mom.

After eating, they both cleaned up the kitchen.
Mia washed up the dishes while Mom put away the ingredients.
"Thank you for helping out, Mia. You are a great chef!" said Mom.
"I loved cooking! Can we cook up cookies next time?" Mia asked.
"Sure! We can look up a good cookie recipe later," said Mom.

As they finished, Mia thought about how much fun cooking was.
"I want to try out a new recipe every weekend!" she said.

Suddenly, Mia had another idea. "Mom, can we write down the pancake recipe in my notebook so I can look back at it later?"
"Of course! Let’s write it out step by step," said Mom.
They sat at the table and wrote down each step carefully.
"Now I can show off my cooking skills to Grandma next time she visits!" Mia said proudly.

Mom laughed and said, "You’re right! You can carry on this recipe forever."

As they finished writing, Mia looked outside and saw the rain slowing down.
"Maybe after this, we can go out and pick up some flowers to decorate the table," she said.
"That sounds lovely," said Mom. "You really know how to brighten up a rainy day!"
