The Day I Wore New Shoes 

Today, Hayeon put on her brand-new shoes.
“They’re so shiny!” she said to herself.

She walked into the classroom proudly.
Her friends looked at her feet.

“Wow! Are those new?” Mina asked.
“Yes! I got them yesterday,” Hayeon smiled.

She ran around the playground feeling like she could fly.
But suddenly—squish! Mud got on her shoes.

“Oh no!” she cried out.
“My new shoes!”

She tried to wipe the mud, but it just got worse.

Mina came over with tissues.
“Here, I’ll help you.”

Together, they cleaned off the shoes.
“They’re still pretty!” Mina cheered.

Back in class, Hayeon looked down at her shoes and smiled.
“They’re not perfect, but they’re mine,” she whispered.

New things don’t stay perfect,
but friendship helps us feel proud anyway.

“응! 어제 샀어.” 하연이는 웃었어요.

운동장에서 하연이는 날아갈 것처럼 뛰어다녔어요.

그런데 갑자기—철퍽! 진흙이 신발에 묻었어요.

“어, 안 돼!” 하연이는 소리쳤어요.

“내 새 신발이잖아!”

그녀는 진흙을 닦으려 했지만, 오히려 더 지저분해졌어요.

미나가 휴지를 들고 다가왔어요.

“자, 내가 도와줄게.”

둘은 함께 신발을 깨끗이 닦았어요.

“그래도 여전히 예뻐!” 미나가 기뻐하며 말했어요.

교실에 돌아온 하연이는 신발을 내려다보며 웃었어요.

“완벽하진 않지만, 이건 내 거야.” 그녀는 속삭였어요.

새로운 물건은 금방 더러워질 수 있지만,

친구와 함께라면 그래도 자랑스러울 수 있어요.
