The Day My Backpack Was Too Heavy 

Doyun put on his backpack and almost fell over.
“Whoa! Why is this so heavy?” he wondered.

He walked to school slowly,
his steps getting slower and slower.

At the gate, his friend Minseo ran up to him.
“Need help?” she asked with a smile.

Doyun nodded.
“Can you hold my water bottle?”

“Sure!” Minseo took it out of his side pocket.
“Wow, you brought your whole house today!”

They both laughed.

When they got to class,
Doyun opened his bag and saw… five books and three notebooks!

“No wonder it’s heavy,” he said.
“I forgot to take out the old ones from yesterday.”

At recess, Minseo helped him sort the things.
“This can stay here, and this goes home,” she said.

Later, the backpack was much lighter.
“Thanks, Minseo. You really saved my back today!”

Sometimes a little help
makes a heavy day feel much lighter.

도윤이는 책가방을 메고 거의 넘어질 뻔했어요.

“와! 왜 이렇게 무겁지?” 그는 속으로 생각했어요.

그는 학교까지 천천히 걸었어요.

걸음은 점점 느려졌어요.

교문 앞에서 친구 민서가 그에게 뛰어왔어요.

“도와줄까?” 민서가 웃으며 말했어요.

도윤이는 고개를 끄덕였어요.

“물병 좀 들어줄래?”

“그럼!” 민서는 옆 주머니에서 그것을 꺼냈어요.

“와, 오늘 집을 다 들고 온 거야?”

둘은 함께 웃었어요.

교실에 도착해서 도윤이는 가방을 열었고…

책이 다섯 권, 공책이 세 권 있었어요!

“이래서 무거웠구나,” 그가 말했어요.

“어제 꺼내는 걸 깜빡했어.”

쉬는 시간에 민서는 도윤이 짐을 정리하는 걸 도와줬어요.

“이건 여기 두고, 이건 집에 가져가,” 그녀가 말했어요.

나중에 가방은 훨씬 가벼워졌어요.

“고마워, 민서야. 덕분에 내 허리가 살았어!”

가끔은 작은 도움이

무거운 하루를 훨씬 가볍게 만들어줘요.
